SEVEN SISTERS |
Ways of imagining Australia's West |
This site contains documentation to assist artists involved in a touring exhibition organised by Craft West. It contains material that may be used as context for the exhibition tour. This material reflects creative responses to the western half of Australia -- a huge expanse of wide open plains, miraculous colour and glittering heavens. On the one hand, it contains stories told by Aboriginal peoples based on the constellation known as Seven Sisters, as well as their variants among other cultures. And on the other hand, it reflects the life of Daisy Bates, a prim Irish woman who dedicated her life to gathering such stories and attending to needs of a suffering people. What about today? What place does this bounty of nature have on the snug blanket of civilisation? |
How to be Daisy Bates
